RAM 1500 Crew vs. Quad Cab (2021 Update)

2021 RAM 1500 Crew vs. Quad Cab

RAM 1500 Crew vs. Quad Cab Overview

The Quad Cab and Crew Cab are both four-door cab styles that are available on the 2021 Ram 1500. Gone are the days of two-door and hinged-swinging doors seen on previous model years. This design reconfiguring was intentional, because many Ram 1500 drivers utilize the rear seating area for passengers, tools, equipment, and other necessities. See the following table to learn more about the interior dimensions of each cab style.

Quad Cab Cab Style Crew Cab
117 cu.-ft. Passenger Volume 132 cu.-ft.
40.9 in. / 39.2 in. Head Room (front/rear) 40.9 in. / 39.8 in.
66 in. / 65.7 in. Shoulder Room (front/rear) 66 in. / 65.7 in.
63.4 in. / 63.4 in. Hip Room (front/rear) 63.4 in. / 63.4 in.
40.9 in. / 35.6 in. Leg Room (front/rear) 40.9 in. / 45.2 in.

RAM 1500 Crew vs. Quad Cab Crew Cab Benefits

The Crew Cab’s biggest advantage is the added space behind the front seats. As seen in the table above, the Crew Cab has more leg room for rear passengers — almost an extra foot of space, which then accounts for an extra 15 cubic feet of storage space. The Crew Cab also has standard in-floor storage bins that come in handy for storing valuables or extra cargo.

On higher trims, the Crew Cab swaps out the front bench seat for driver and passenger bucket seats and a full length floor console. This brings down the capacity to five passengers.

RAM 1500 Crew vs. Quad Cab Quad Cab Benefits

The greatest advantage of the Quad Cab, which seats six, is that it gets better towing and payload ratings than the Crew Cab. Simply put, a smaller cab means your truck has a lighter curb weight, which in turn means you can tow and haul a bit extra.

For example, let’s look at the Ram 1500 Tradesman trim with a 6-foot-4 box — one equipped with a Quad Cab and the other a Crew Cab.

Quad Cab Cab Style Crew Cab
7,740 lbs. Towing Capacity 6,600 lbs.
2,320 lbs. Payload Capacity 1,990 lbs.
4,778 lbs. Curb Weight 4,909 lbs.

Even though they have the same powerful engine, the same box size, and the same 4×2 drivetrain, the Quad Cab has higher towing and hauling capabilities.
